Usually at this time of the week my focus is 100% on choosing the soul, jazz-funk & disco tunes from the 60s 70s 80s 90s & beyond that I will be playing on my show tomorrow (Monday) evening. However, with the curtains pulled back and the windows wide open, letting some much needed fresh air circulate the house, some of my attention has been drawn away from what’s happening inside “Old Gits HQ” to what is going on outside in my front & back gardens …
I am no Alan Titchmarsh, but I have discovered in my 34 years of being a houseowner that stuff grows when we have sunshine & rain – and we have had a LOT of the former recently ! Luckily I had ‘fake grass’ put down out the back exactly 8 years ago, so I just have to keep an eye on the two borders for ugly weeds popping up and a bit of unwanted greenery emerging from underneath the trees at the bottom – but come the briefest of showers and they’re off … grow, grow, grow !
The front is only a little patch of land but I have a small tree and a big bush bordering my property, yet the weed activity (mainly brambles!) that goes on around them is frantic, blink and they are tapping on the front window ! So as this week is ‘Brown Bin week’ when the nice friendly guys from the council take away any garden waste, I need to find half an hour get out there and have a quick tidy up or I will have a big job to do in a fortnight !
Gosh, that makes me sound really old, writing about gardening ! If you can relate to that feeling and are about the same age as me, there’s a very good chance you will enjoy the music I play each Monday live from 7-9pm on Gateway, Have a listen this week, especially if you need to relax indoors after doing mundane household stuff all day !
