Izzy Judd on postnatal challenges
New mums are feeling more bombarded than ever with advice on how to bring up their baby – and it’s creating a new ‘motherload’ as two thirds (69%) say it’s added to the pressures of motherhood.
More than half (52%) say they feel overwhelmed by advice from social media influencers, while 52% also say they’ve taken the advice of friends or family, even though they didn’t feel it was the right thing to do.
BACP’s (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) annual Public Perceptions survey shows two-fifths (43%) of new mums have considered having counselling to help, but haven’t accessed it.
To help new mums feel that they are not alone navigating this new chapter, BACP has launched Positive Steps, a new campaign, painting powerful, personal stories detailing the mental health challenges faced by a range of new mums – and how therapy helped them – on a popular parkway in South London.
Aston spoke to musician, author and podcaster Izzy Judd.
