New way to increase fraud awareness
To mark National Allotments Week (11–17 August), new research reveals that gardening and grandchildren bring the most pride to Britain’s over-65s – yet anxiety about financial fraud is also taking root.
With summer holidays in full swing and grandparents stepping in to help with childcare, a new campaign is calling attention to how the nation’s cherished green spaces can play a key role in helping raise awareness of fraud prevention.
The study shows that nearly half (48%) of retirees feel most proud of raising a family and enjoying time with grandchildren. This is followed by pride in maintaining physical health (31%) and long-standing friendships (25%).
In response, Take Five to Stop Fraud, UK Finance and The National Allotment Society have launched Protect Your Patch, a new awareness campaign designed to help older people spot scams before it’s too late, with three key action points to help people avoid falling victim to scammers.
Aston spoke to Catriona Still, head of fraud prevention at UK Finance and Ashley Crowdey, chair of Wouldham Allotment.
