Awareness campaign for Sunflower Extra

In the UK, 1 in 5 people have a disability, and 80% of these are non-visible. Yet for many, their support needs remain hidden in daily life, often leading to barriers, misunderstandings, and added stress. To help address this, Hidden Disabilities Sunflower has launched Sunflower Extra, a new NFC-enabled card that allows wearers to share personalised support information instantly and discreetly.

Building on the success of the original Sunflower card, Sunflower Extra is designed to give people with non- visible disabilities more control over how they communicate their needs. With a simple tap of a smartphone, the card opens a personalised digital support page, guiding staff on how best to offer assistance without the need for repeated explanations.

For people with hidden disabilities, travelling or navigating public spaces can be unpredictable and stressful. Some may need reassurance during delays, others may rely on practical help such as seat reservations, ramps, or assistance with equipment. Even small adjustments like being able to keep hold of their own ticket can make a significant difference.
