Wetherspoon recruitment day at Pathways: permanent jobs on tap

6th November 2025
Posted by Aston Avery

Following the hugely successful opening of The Sigered, King of Essex in Basildon town centre, JD Wetherspoon is expanding its team once again, with permanent roles on offer.

The popular pub, which opened last month, has proved such a hit with customers that it now requires 40 additional staff ahead of the busy festive season.

Recruitment will take place through Pathways, Basildon Council’s local employment and training service.

The new positions include 20 bar staff and 20 kitchen staff roles. Although the start dates will coincide with the Christmas rush, all positions are ongoing, providing long-term employment opportunities for residents.

Due to licensing and working environment requirements, the vacancies are open to candidates aged 18 and over.

Applications close on Monday 10 November, and shortlisted candidates will be contacted directly to arrange interview times.

These outcomes highlight the value of partnership working in supporting local employment and economic growth.

Cllr Jessica Power, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Jobs & Skills, said:

“It’s fantastic to see Wetherspoon continuing to invest in Basildon – not just by opening a successful new venue, but by creating permanent local jobs for our residents. This partnership with Pathways has already helped many people into work, and it’s great to see that success story continuing.

“We believe in Basildon and that’s why we’re committed to supporting initiatives like this that bring jobs, skills, and confidence to our community. Local people, local jobs, that’s exactly what regeneration looks like in action.”

This latest recruitment drive continues a successful collaboration between Wetherspoon and Basildon’s Pathways service, which has already helped dozens of residents find work at The Sigered, King of Essex.

Earlier recruitment days saw remarkable results – at one event alone, 17 candidates were offered jobs on the spot. Over 100 residents attended the first open recruitment session, which was jointly organised by Pathways and Wetherspoon’s area management team.
