Dame Denise Lewis on retirement challenges

Women have long shouldered more of society’s unpaid work, and career breaks are where that reality shows up most starkly in retirement.

Time out for children, caring, health or simply juggling rising costs often means fewer pension contributions, slower pay progression, and missed promotions—small setbacks that compound into a sizable shortfall decades later.

New research reveals that those career breaks are pushing women towards poverty in retirement, driven by lower earnings and time out of work according to the newly released 21st edition of the Women and Retirement Report from Scottish Widows.

Aston spoke to Olympic gold medalist (Heptathlon in Syndey 2000) Dame Denise Lewis and Susan Hope, retirement expert at Scottish Widows.
