Denise Van Outen on budget-friendly Christmas magic
Christmas is traditionally a time filled with sparkle, excitement and memory-making – but new research shows many parents are finding it harder than usual to bring the magic to life. Over a quarter (28%) of parents feel overwhelmed during the festive period, with finances, time demands and the pressure to “make it perfect” taking their toll.
Nearly half (49%) say financial strain is the biggest source of stress, and 46% feel under pressure to squeeze in festive activities alongside work, school events and the endless to-do list. Meanwhile, time is rapidly becoming a new pressure point, with 60% of parents saying gift buying is the biggest time drain at Christmas, with most spending 2-5 hours every week searching for presents.
One destination stepping in to support families is Lakeside Shopping Centre, which is lifting the pressure with a free Borealis Northern Lights experience. The mesmerising installation offers parents and children a chance to pause, soak up the festive atmosphere, and enjoy a magical moment together. For 30% of parents, being able to shop and entertain their children in the same place would significantly reduce Christmas stress.
