State pension is on the rise
A new postcode lottery is emerging in people across the UK’s ability to work longer, with confidence about staying in employment into later life varying depending on where you live, new research reveals.
Ahead of the State Pension age rise this April, new figures show that workers in the South of England are amongst the least optimistic in the UK about staying in work as they age.
These regional differences come at a time when the ability to work for longer is becoming increasingly important. Nearly 15 million people in the UK are not saving enough for retirement, and with the State Pension age continuing to rise, access to good-quality, sustainable employment is playing a growing role in financial security.
Ros spoke to Patrick Thomson, head of research analysis & policy at Standard Life Centre for the Future of Retirement.
