With the constant rainy weather and bitterly cold temperatures we’ve been experiencing so far this year, opportunities have been somewhat limited lately for me to enjoy my occasional recreational walks in retirement. The digital camera has so far been optimistically charged up twice without actually getting a workout in the streets & parks of Essex and the only times I have been able to stretch my leg muscles and fill my lungs with fresh air have been on my regular visits to the local supermarkets and shopping centres as part of my current lifestyle…
On the one occasion I did manage to break the routine a little and have a longer stroll somewhere a bit different, I felt a slight twinge in my right toe after about an hour of wearing my beloved walking boots. They were only bought new in December to replace the five year old ones that I’d worn out on my many previous adventures, so they weren’t the problem. The issue was that I than recalled how a few weeks ago I’d dropped a new bar of soap smack on said toe in the shower – and it really hurt at the time !
I’ve found that as I’ve got older I am often finding little nicks and bruises on my body and can’t for the life of me work out how they got there, I just tend to bump into a table or trip over a step, something as trivial as that, then just carry on with my life … but I did remember the incident with the soap ! Having spent most of January & February in my slippers, or at best my light casual outdoor shoes, I hadn’t really tested the toe but I am pleased to say that all seems fine with it now. I know you would worry…
Dancing is definitely off the agenda at the moment and has been for a good few years, sore toe or no sore toe !! However, I do enjoy a little tapping of the feet under the desk at Gateway on a Monday night and I have some fabulous tunes lined up to maybe get your bits wiggling as you listen to my show this week.
