Listen: St Patrick’s Day drinks warning

As Ireland prepares to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, new figures suggest many pubgoers may be feeling the pinch when it comes to buying a pint.

The latest Guinness Index reveals the average price of a pint of Guinness in pubs across Ireland now sits at just over €6 (€6.09) – a big jump compared with just over a decade ago, when the same pint would have cost around €3.98 in 2012.

That’s an increase of more than 50%, meaning what once felt like a pricey pint is now becoming the norm in many pubs.

Now in its third year, the annual Guinness Index from Raisin tracks how inflation and wages affect the buying power of drinkers when it comes to one of the country’s most famous pints.

Aston spoke to Daragh Curran a.k.a The Guinness Guru.
