Call for more accessible homes as bungalow shortage falls
A quarter (25%) of homeowners aged 55+ say their current home is not suitable for their long-term mobility needs.
And with bungalows now accounting for around one per cent of new-build supply, it leaves an estimated 1.2 million older movers unable to access suitable housing.
Further barriers according to research commissioned by Uplifts include high purchase prices (22%), emotional attachment to existing homes (9%) and unsuitable locations (5%).
Aston spoke to occupational therapist Kate Sheehan and The Estate Agency Consultancy’s Chris Webb.
