Dom Littlewood helps small businesses owners prepare for biggest tax shake‑up in nearly 30 years

Over 850,000 sole traders and landlords will be affected by major changes to the way they report their tax from 6th April 2026 — yet new research shows many feel anxious, confused and unprepared.

New data of 1,500 small business owners reveals widespread misunderstanding of the Government’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) For Income Tax plans, which begin rolling out next week.

Amid the uncertainty, Consumer Champion Dominic Littlewood is stepping in to help sole traders and landlords “Get MTD Done with Dom”, sharing clear, practical guidance to ease nerves around the transition.

The research, from accounting software company FreeAgent, revealed that only 39% of small business owners say they fully understand the upcoming rules, while one in six admit they’re completely unclear about what MTD actually involves – with some also admitting they thought MTD was actually a military acronym.
