Britain’s biggest talking points revealed!

The nation has had its vote on the big conversational topics from how we make our tea to what is the best soap opera.

New research from Anglian Home Improvements shows what gets us talking the most and top of the list is the weather (40%), followed by our gardens and plants (29%) and local gossip (26%). Other hot topics for doorstep chats include recommendations for builders and plumbers (13%) and home improvements (22%).

Three quarters of people think that a strong sense of community spirit is important in modern life, and a quarter (25%) think they’re actually more connected than they were 20 years ago. 42% of us wish we had more time to be an active part of their local community, and more than one in two (62%) don’t think communities are supported with enough funding.

The research coincides with the launch of Anglian Home Improvements’ new 60 for 60 community campaign which invites local charities and community groups from across the country to apply for a share of £60,000 to celebrate the company’s 60th birthday.

Aston spoke to behavioural psychologist Jo Hemmings.
