Neil Gits Global!

20th June 2026
Posted by Neil Matthew

Whilst driving around in the car over the last couple of months, I’ve been listening to a folder of some of the many MP3 files I get sent in via email, namely the ones that have passed the quality control test and made it onto my Monday evening playlist ! It never ceases to amaze me just how many talented artists there are out there in 2026, still making great soulful music, just the way we loved it when growing up in the 70s & 80s. What is almost as surprising is the number of wildly varying countries some of this terrific music originates from …

Traditionally, most of the classic tunes that we have loved over the decades had their roots in the USA, with many of our own musicians here in the UK doing a pretty fine job of matching those high standards. Over the last year or so though I’ve played songs by groups or singers from places such as Estonia, The Netherlands, Argentina, Greece, South Africa, Australia, Germany, Canada and The Philipinnes. Even Canvey Island too !!

Of course, as the title suggests, “The Old Gits Soul Show” is mainly about keeping alive some much treasured memories of days gone by from the 20th century. If however you still like to hear what is happening on the soul scene these days, there are always a couple of songs included that may well impress you, alongside some rarely heard tracks tucked away on albums and B-sides by many of the names we developed our love of soul listening to in years gone by … not to mention a sprinkling of those timeless classic songs that never seem to lose their appeal !

The weekly ‘Repeat Play’ may well be on air right now if you are reading this soon after I have posted it, but make sure you tune into the LIVE broadcast every Monday at 7pm to catch all the best stuff first !
