Dr Hilary Jones on weight loss pills

Thousands of people across the UK are expected to start taking the world’s first GLP-1 weight loss tablet next week as initial deliveries of the Wegovy pill reach patients.

There has been a significant appetite for the pill version of the previously injectable-only medication, with a boom in demand since the tablet was approved by the UK’s medicines regulator, the MHRA, last month.

The pill is not available on the NHS yet, only private providers can prescribe the drug to patients who meet eligibility criteria.
