Cook and comedian George Egg shares snack-saving hacks
Children munch through an average of 1,146 snacks a year – more than three a day – leaving families with an annual snack bill of £1,059, or around 92p per snack.
New research of 1,200 parents of school-aged children also found youngsters will declare “I’m hungry!” an astonishing 104 times over the six-week summer holidays, leaving six in 10 (61%) parents admitting they’ve completely run out of snack ideas before the break is over.
It’s no surprise, then, that snacking stress peaks during the summer holidays, with more than a quarter (27%) of parents feeling extra pressure to keep cupboards and fridges stocked with food their children will actually eat, while still trying to make healthy choices.
The research, commissioned by Pilgrims Choice, also revealed 11:54am is Britain’s peak summer snack time – when children are most likely to start asking for something to eat.
