Sporting facilities open and grass cutting on estates to resume

The borough’s tennis courts, ball courts, Basildon Golf Course, and fishing lakes have reopened in line with government guidance, and grass cutting on estates will resume today (Thursday 14 May) across the borough.

Chair of the Neighbourhoods and Public Spaces Committee Councillor David Harrison said:

“We’re happy to be able to offer residents across the borough some safe additional ways they can enjoy being active outside during lockdown.

“Following safety advice from central government, some sporting and recreational facilities are open for solo use, with members of your household, or with one person from another household while practising social distancing.

“And with that obviously comes the need for maintained awareness about possible coronavirus transmission when using any outdoor courts.

“It’s also important to note that these facilities should not be used by people showing coronavirus symptoms or if you or any one in your household is self-isolating, in order to reduce the likelihood of coronavirus transmission.”

Play areas and outdoor gyms remain closed.

Basildon Council will not resume cutting grass around play areas until they reopen, and grass-cutting work on housing estates will be completed in stages across the borough over the coming weeks.
