Having been stuck at home for the vast majority of the last four months with very little meaningful work to do and just a couple of tentative trips a week to Asda to “enjoy” as some sort of social life, I have found it very helpful to stay sane by getting into my car and get out of Essex once a week this summer and explore our wonderful coasts and countryside, with my trusty camera to hand. Dozens of new football grounds have been ticked off along the way (have I mentioned my ‘hobby’ ?) and the compass has pointed north, south, east & west several times each now. So where new to go next ? Options were starting to get a bit limited until I remembered a football club I should have seen a match at a couple of years ago, but the fixtures didn’t work out quite right for me, they got relegated and disappeared off my radar.
Wroxham FC it was then !! When I checked it on the map, I noticed it was right in the Norfolk Broads and not too far from the North Sea Coast. A13 Annie was available and up for it too and I could feel a proper little mini-break coming on, so after duly popping in to snap footy ground No: 569 (!) and a nice chat with the friendly folk there – it was total reee…laxxxx….ation time ! A stroll around the town (toilets located!) , back in the car for a scenic drive to Mundeseley, gorgeous fish n chips for lunch, a game of crazy golf, an ice cream each, more photos of the beach and the cliffs, a chill out on a bench looking out to sea and of course taking the long way home via Great Yarmouth & Lowestoft to stretch the day out just a bit longer whilst singing along to “Old Git” tunes on the car CD player ! Bliss …
And so, along comes the weekend again, time to prepare the next show for you, cobwebs swept away, ideas flowing – mission accomplished ! You can hear last week’s efforts via “Listen Again” on this website or if you are reading this before the ink has even had a chance to dry you can catch the ‘repeat play’ today (Saturday) at 5pm. I will be back on air LIVE as usual Monday from 7-9pm with the brand new selection of soul, jazz-funk & disco from the 70s 80s and beyond … join me whenever you can !
