Motorsport update – 8th March

Below is a roundup of all the latest motorsport news in the last week.

Nascar: 

• This past Sunday saw the Pennzoil 400 which was held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada as part of the Nascar Cup Series. Joey Logano has won the last two straight Pennzoil 400s for Team Penske. The race was won by Kyle Larson, driving a Chevrolet Camaro. Next stop is the Phoenix Raceway for the Instacart 500 in Phoenix, Arizona on 14th March 2021.

F1: 

• Pre season testing will run between 12th-14th March 2021 at Bahrain International Circuit with the season starting in just less than 3 weeks time. Many more teams launched their new 2021 F1 challengers last week which included: Mercedes, Williams, Alpine and Aston Martin.
• The F1 saftey cars will also be updated for the 2021 season. Aston Martin will bring the Vantage to F1 races alongside the Mercedes AMG GT for the 2021 season to act as a saftey car for the race should it need to be deployed. eg: lots of debris on the circuit from a crash. The Mercedes AMG GT saftey car, has also recieved a new coat of paint for the 2021 season.

BTCC: 

• Three time BTCC champion Gordon Shedden will be returning to the BTCC this year and will be driving for the Team Dynamics Honda where he’ll replace Dan Cammish. Shedden will be reunited with the Honda Civic Type R this year, albiet in a newer version of the hot hatchback.
