Brits in a pickle over UK’s most traditional dishes
Many great British classic dishes risk losing their place in cookery books in favour of the history books.
A survey out today shows a huge number of Britons think great British classic dishes like scotch egg (11%), spotted dick (18%), Eton mess (13%) and toad in the hole (18%) aren’t even real meals and were instead made-up for fictional purposes.
The research from Aldi shows fewer than half (46%) know what pease pudding is, while lesser-known dishes like stargazy pie (23%) and rumbledethumps (10%) have almost been forgotten.
Aston spoke to food historian Seren Charrington-Hollins.
