125 years of changing lives of pets
The benefits to sharing your life with a pet are vast, from helping to create a balance of both mental and physical health, to providing companionship to tackle loneliness.
In fact, our connection with pets is very much deep-rooted in our upbringing as new research by Blue Cross who are celebrating their 125th anniversary shows around 40% of people signal that owning a pet was their fondest memory of childhood. A quarter (25%) of people highlight the excitement that a pet used to show on their return from school as their most treasured memory of owning a pet in their early years.
In recent times, an increase in people working from home has led to a reported increase in pet ownership in the UK. Over 60% of people agree that the pandemic has made them realise the importance of owning a pet – with 42% agreeing that owning a pet is a vital tool to help them combat loneliness.
