Airlines’ aggressive tactics threaten holidaymakers’ choices

The UK travel sector is on a turbulent flight path – one you’ve likely boarded at some point whether in the planning, booking or taking a simple holiday getaway.

The core right to consumer choice, freedom, and trust are being grounded by the aggressive manoeuvres of low-cost airlines. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) must take control and steer us away from this looming storm to ensure a smooth landing for consumers.

Today, On the Beach, a leading UK online beach holiday retailer, is revealing the concerning tactics deployed by low-cost airlines (LCAs) such as Ryanair and EasyJet and is seeking regulatory intervention from the CMA to better protect consumers. These airlines are not only undermining online travel agents (OTAs) but are leaving consumers in a state of confusion and mistrust.

Aston spoke to consumer champion and journalist Martyn James and Shaun Morton, CEO of On The Beach.
