We’re a song and dance crazy nation, with well over half of us (58%) claiming musical movies are our favourite film genre. We know all the songs, and all the words too! Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody (31%) from the film of the same name topped the list of most loved songs, followed by The Lion King’s Circle of Life (22%) Mamma Mia (20%) and This Is Me from The Greatest Showman (20%). When it comes to our favourite dance moments in films, ‘I’ve Had The Time of My Life ‘ and THAT lift from Dirty Dancing is still our all-time favourite (22%), followed by Mamma Mia (17%) and the classy  Gene Kelly dancing to Singin’ In the Rain (16%).

In fact, musical movies are such a passion for Brits nearly half of us (49%) think the ups and downs of our own lives could be turned into a musical, according to research by the Must-See Musicals campaign. And when it comes to the celebs whose lives we’d like to see immortalized in song, Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga came joint top, followed somewhat surprisingly by Ant and Dec.

Aston spoke to Lucy Bardrick, Film and Stage Assistant Choreographer (Mamma Mia, Sound of Music Live, Beauty and the Beast) about as to why everyone loves musicals.
