Amanda Lamb on electric vehicles

New research has revealed that, despite the growing popularity of electric cars, over half (54%) of us think the high cost of purchase is the main obstacle preventing us from owning one.

Even second-hand models are proving expensive compared to the equivalent petrol or diesels with just under 4 in 10 (39%) of drivers saying they’re unable to afford the upfront costs involved.

The survey by Europcar shed light on the complex relationship between consumer interest in electric cars and the economic challenges many face in gaining an EV. 4 in 10 (38%) of people stated they were reluctant to buy an electric vehicle before spending several weeks trialing it first.
