Angellica Bell on emergency savings

New research by SMARTY Mobile has revealed almost half of us will be forced to dip into emergency savings. To combat this as 2025 begins, many are focusing on both physical and financial fitness. The survey of 2,000 adults has shown how we plan to save money, manage expenses, and stay financially prepared.

Just under three quarters (71%) of people plan to hunt for deals throughout the year, actively seeking ways to save. Confidence in managing money is also high, with over four in five (84%) stating they feel capable of staying on top of their finances in 2025.

Dining out and takeaways are the most common areas where people plan to cut costs, with nearly half (47%) reducing spending in this category. Reducing monthly expenses is a priority for over a third (35%), while 45% plan to use emergency savings to handle unexpected costs.
