Are patients turning to social media for weight loss jabs?

New research highlights patients using weight loss injections are increasingly seeking support from social media to navigate their weight loss journey in between clinical appointments, raising concerns among clinicians about patient safety and understanding.

The figures reveal that many patients taking GLP-1 medications for weight loss struggle to manage their treatment effectively between clinical appointments, with a significant proportion turning to social media for guidance.

Nearly three-quarters (73%) said they find it difficult to fully understand their progress and manage their treatment in between appointments, according to research by Phlo. During these gaps, 65% reported seeking reassurance or advice online, with platforms such as forums (31%), YouTube (29%) and TikTok (20%).
