Are UK homeowners keen on going green?

A significant 8 in 10 homeowners are willing to make changes to their homes to combat climate change. However, despite this enthusiasm, financial worries are holding people back. While 57% agree that climate change is one of the biggest issues we face, it still falls behind concerns like the cost of living, the NHS, the economy, and immigration. Nearly half (48%) believe keeping heating costs low should take priority—even if it means contributing more to climate change.

The third annual Net Zero Action Rankings report by British Gas has shed light on how the UK feels about hitting its net zero target. After interviewing more than 12,000 people since 2021, the findings reveal a nation that’s ready to take action—if only the price is right.

The recent general election brought a glimmer of hope, with a 10% boost in public confidence that the new government is serious about reaching net zero. Still, more than 6 in 10 (61%) of the public doubts the UK will achieve the target by 2050.

Aston spoke to Susan Wells, director of EV and for net zero at British Gas.
