On this month’s autism show, Aston and regular contributor Anna Kennedy OBE had a jam packed show which started with our own Radio Club volunteers asking Anna questions about her charity and all things autism.

Anna had this to say after the show:

“Another great show talking ‘All things Autism in Essex’ with my Charity Ambassador Aston Avery. I was put through my paces by 3 members of the Gateway Radio Club asking me questions live on air about the work of the charity. Gateway are doing a fantastic job creating opportunities for our young people.

I was excited to speak to our second guest Emma Lowry diagnosed at 3 1/2 year sold autistic. Emma was one of my first Autism’s got Talent performers in 2012. Emma is now 19 years old and she has been singing since she was 4 years old. She has always enjoyed singing and in 2012 she sang a Whitney Houston song ‘One moment in time ‘ where she received a standing ovation from the crowd at the theatre. Emma returned to sing for us in 2014 and yet again received a standing ovation when she sang an Emili Sande song ‘Clowns’ Emma is currently studying an HND in performing arts and has recently written and produced her own song ‘Overthinkin’ which she produced during lockdown.”

“Our second guest was Jon Roberts Author. He works in IT and lives in Swansea with his wife Sarah and daughter Kya. Jon published his first book ‘Through the eyes of Me’ in August 2017 as a dedication to his 4-year-old daughter, Kya why had been diagnosed with autism. I was honoured to be asked to review the book and my review is posted on the back cover.

‘Jon has created a beautiful book in praise of his amazing daughter. The illustrations are captivating and I love the way it highlights the world through the eyes of a young person on the autism spectrum’.

His second book, ‘Through the eyes of Us ‘ published in 2019, focusing on Kya’s relationship with her friend Martha, also on the autistic spectrum. I pleased to share that Jon has now published his third book which is about many different disabilities which hopes to raise awareness in schools.

Jon shared during his interview he has collaborated with Spectroplis where a fundraiser was created to send Jon’s books free of charge to Primary Schools in Swansea.

If you are interested in purchasing Jon’s books, they are available on Amazon or www.graffeg.com

A HUGE thank you to Aston and Keith Avery for the donation of £500 to the charity a gift from their experience on Pointless. Well done lads!!

Once again, I would like to thank Gateway Radio for giving Aston and I the opportunity to raise further awareness and acceptance talking ‘All things Autism in Essex”.

See you all back in September take care everyone!!
