Bespoke music track helps tolerate pain

Bob Marley once said, “one good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” For Pain Awareness Month a new track, All of Us, has been scientifically created to reduce levels of pain intensity and unpleasantness.

The power of music in managing pain is underappreciated. Only 15% of people would think to listen to music when suffering acute pain, despite 71% agreeing that music has a positive effect on their wellbeing.

Classical, Pop and Rock music are the top genres people think could help make feelings of acute pain more tolerable.

o explore if music really can help manage pain, the Tune Out Pain study supported by Nurofen created a unique music track which was successfully tested with 286 acute pain sufferers.

Aston spoke to musician and composer Anatole and Dr Claire Howlin, psychology researcher from University College Dublin.
