The end of November marks the end of National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, a month designed to encourage budding writers to complete a 50,000-word manuscript, incentivising participants to write approximately 1,500 words a day.
The UK publishing industry is worth a massive £6 billion, with self-publishing seeing a massive increase in popularity, now accounting for 30-34% of all eBook sales. The UK is a hub for developing writers, and more people than ever are choosing to take their shot at creating their own works.
Whilst studies show that over half of Brits would like to write a book or have already done so, with 60% of the population stating that their dream job would be an author – making it the most desired job role in Britain. However, there may be a disconnect between this dream and the reality, with writing skills holding back the population from this goal.
