Brits turn to the ‘rainy day fund’ as winter costs bite

While traditionally it may have been spending that gave us a buzz, the tides have turned, with saving now providing the same feeling.

Two thirds of savers get a thrill from putting money aside – with as little as £30 bringing the buzz. Reflecting on their savings success, 88% of adults have met a goal they set and 2 in 5 see any amount of money saved, large or small, as an accomplishment.

When it comes to what motivates savers, research by Post Office shows almost 2 in 3 (64%) plan to put their savings towards their future, while 57% are putting it aside for emergencies.

Aston spoke to Ross Borkett, banking director at Post Office and Brit Grosskopf, professor of economics at The University of Exeter.
