Brits urged to dig out and donate their old tech
There are more than 200 million old and unused devices gathering dust in British households that could be recycled or refurbished and rehomed, according to new research from Vodafone and digital inclusion charity Good Things Foundation.
The average person has three old and unused devices collecting dust in a drawer at home with 1 in 3 people surveyed (33%) admitting they had between 4 and 8 discarded devices at home.
The study, conducted to mark Get Online Week, found nearly a third (32%) had kept hold of old tech because of security concerns, 17% said they kept a spare phone in case their current phone breaks and more than a third (36%) had simply forgotten about their old gadgets, including laptops, tablets and mobile phones.
Aston spoke to Isobel Thomas, head of community and engagement at Good Things Foundation & Catherine Russell, head of sustainable business at Vodafone UK.
