Can a heatwave help our health?

As the heatwave continues and mid-way through Healthy Eating Week (Monday 12th – Sunday 18th), new research has found that UK adults are not doing enough to ensure our guts are as healthy as the rest of our body.

But while the sun shines, the thought of standing in kitchen with the oven on and cooking dishes on the hob can make us feel even more hot and sweaty.

So perhaps the heatwave, empowering us to opt for more salads and less roast dinners, can help with some healthy eating which many of us aren’t doing enough of.

In fact, the research by YouGov and MOJU has found that 74% of Brits are not eating the recommended amount of plants needed to fuel the gut – meaning even when we’re feeling full, the majority of us are running on empty.

Aston spoke to nutritionist and prebiotic expert dietitian Kara Landau.
