Charity calls For urgent changes – Grief Awareness Day 2024

We all know that grief, shock and anger go hand in hand with bereavement, but admin is not a word that automatically springs to mind.  This Grief Awareness Day (30th August), a UK charity is leading calls to make death related administration (so called ‘sadmin’) easier for family and friends when a loved one passes away.

A new poll from the UK’s leading end of life charity Marie Curie shows that 1 in 4 people in the UK have taken on the responsibility of ‘sadmin’ when a loved one dies – with 80% of Brits describing dealing with the administrative aspects of bereavement as challenging.

The top three ‘sadmin’ tasks that people find the most difficult following the death of a loved one are arranging funeral services (32%), closing bank accounts (26%), and registering their death (23%).

Aston spoke to Sarah Middlemiss, campaigns manager at Marie Curie.
