Charity working to shine a light on hidden homelessness

New research has revealed that for many of us homelessness could be as little as three months away. For 75% of the population, it would take about 90 days before we could no longer pay our rent or mortgage if we were to become suddenly unemployed.

As 1 in 4 of us have already experienced a housing crisis, the public perception of what it means and takes to lose your home is being called into question.

The research, carried out by Howarth Housing Group, revealed that 2 in 3 (60%) assume homeless people sleep rough — on benches, in doorways, and so on – whereas this only accounts for 5% of cases.

Support for those in need can only be given when people talk about their situation and as the cost of living crisis worsens it is becoming more and more important to find the hidden homeless.

Aston spoke to Benjamin Howarth, founder and managing director at Howarth Housing Group.
