Children’s Charity calls for the return of outdoor play

English Children’s Charity calls for the return of outdoor play now restrictions have been eased. Fun, friends, and Freedom more important than ever!

Play is an essential part of every child’s life and is vital for the enjoyment of childhood as well as social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development. As an unfortunate result of the pandemic, every child across the country has missed out fundamental ‘play time’ with their friends, and have seen freedoms limited due to the closure of playgrounds, schools or through the guidance provided on social ‘mixing’.

Ahead of Children’s Mental Health Week, Play England highlight that research shows that play has many benefits for children, families and the wider community, as well as improving health and quality of life. Recent research suggests that children’s access to good play provision has a vast wealth of positive benefits. From increasing their self-awareness, self-esteem, and self-respect, to building resilience through risk taking and challenge, problem solving, and dealing with new and novel situations.
