Creativity the key for teaching online safety

Online safety has long been a major concern for parents. As the digital world continues to evolve, it brings new risks and challenges for children navigating the internet. According to new research, nearly a quarter (24%) of parents admit they lack confidence in their child’s ability to stay safe online.

Nearly 8 in 10 (79%) of parents with children in Year 6 are worried about online risks such as bullying, peer pressure, and exposure to new platforms. Nearly half (49%) of children in this age group share these concerns, with 57% specifically anxious about bullying and peer pressure.

To address these needs and encourage positive engagement, Tesco Mobile has partnered with Internet Matters to launch an exciting new initiative called the ‘Online Safety Champion’ competition. This nationwide campaign invites schoolchildren to design their own superhero-style characters who promote safe and responsible internet use.
