Dr Hilary Jones adresses flu jab fears

Almost a third of Brits believe that by NOT getting the flu vaccine, they are helping to relieve the NHS from stress, according to research. This couldn’t be further from the truth as they may end up needing the NHS’s help, taking up much needed hospital beds should they get infected.

New government-released data, taken between the 2^nd and 8^th January this year, has shown that flu vaccine uptake remains at less than 50% in those aged under 65 who are in an at-risk group. Furthermore, only two in five of those aged between 50-64, for whom the vaccine is free, have received the vaccine – 60% have NOT received their jab.

This comes after consumer research showed that 78% believe the NHS will become overwhelmed and strained over the colder months ahead, with a further 70% feeling worried about this.
