Dr Ranj on unhealthy homes
Leaky taps, damp walls and cold radiators are more than everyday annoyances. Across the UK, millions of homes are showing signs of poor health, with one in five adults now living with ongoing problems.
The findings come from new research by HomeServe, which shows how early warning signs are often ignored until they become major repairs. Around 12 million people report unresolved issues, from leaks and low water pressure to noisy boilers and damp patches. Many say they only act once a problem becomes obvious, or they would not know how to fix small faults themselves.
That inaction carries a cost. The national repair bill is estimated at £42 billion as minor problems are left to worsen over time.
