Elf on the Shelf is back

The Elf on the Shelf is one of the nation’s most popular festive traditions, celebrating 10 years in the UK. More than 19.5 million cheeky but loveable Santa’s Scout Elves have been adopted into homes around the world to watch over children at Christmas.

The idea started in 2005 as a self-published book, written by Chanda and their mother, Carol Aebersold, about a family tradition of visiting elves from Santa’s workshop. The family then decided to package the book with an elf doll. And it didn’t take long for it to become a massive success.

The tradition reached the UK in 2013. Every day in December parents choose new places to put the Elf once their children have gone to bed, so when they wake up, it appears the Elf has magically moved to a different spot from which to watch them.
