Over a million people in the UK are living with Essential Tremor (ET). It is considered to be one of the most common movement disorders, with estimates suggesting it may be up to ten times more common than Parkinson’s Disease. Despite this, Brits are nearly seven times more likely to be aware of Parkinson’s Disease, with only one in ten aware of ET.
The findings come from new research released today by The National Tremor Foundation (sponsored by INSIGHTEC Ltd), which highlights the lack of awareness of the condition.
The research has highlighted the stereotypes and lack of awareness surrounding this condition, with 1.9 million Brits (3% nationally representative) believing that Essential Tremors are contagious and 5% thinking it is something that only effects old people.
Aston spoke to Jackie Farrell, support group coordinator at The National Tremor Foundation to raise awareness of Essential Tremor.
