Posted by Gateway 97.8

Round 2 of the 2020 FIA F1 World Championship took place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The Styrian GP was the second round of the 2020 season and it’s the first time in F1’s 70 year history that back to back races have been held on the same circuit.

The 2020 calendar has been shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mercedes notched up their second win of the season with Lewis Hamilton winning the race comfortably.

Below is the top 5 classified drivers from the 2020 F1 Styrian GP:

  • 1st: Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)
  • 2nd: Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes)
  • 3rd: Max Verstappen (Red Bull)
  • 4th: Alex Albon (Red Bull)
  • 5th: Lando Norris (McLaren)

Some of the biggest talking points from the action packed race include:

  • Racing Point’s Sergio Perez brilliant move around the outside of McLaren’s Carlos Sainz at T6,
  • The two Ferrari’s of Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc colliding on the first lap at Remus,
  • Lando Norris’s roller coaster of a final lap as he passed three cars on the last lap to grab P5. He overtook Daniel Ricciardo (Renault) and the two Racing Point’s of Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll to grab P5 on the last lap of the GP.

Fastest Lap: Carlos Sainz (McLaren) 1:05.689. (Lap 69)

Other News: The Tuscan and the Russian GP’s have become the latest races to be added to the 2020 FIA F1 World Championship calendar. The Tuscan GP will take place at Mugello on 13th September 2020 whilst the Russian GP will make it’s return to Sochi on 27th September 2020.

I will be back next week for another F1 update as the circus heads to Hungary between the 16th-18th July 2020. Tune in every Monday to catch me live on daytime with Aston Avery live on Gateway 97.8 from 10am.
