F1 News Update – 29th June

On Monday 29th June, Gateway 97.8 Radio Club member, Charlie presented a F1 Update which dives into the latest F1 news and also how the sport is coping during the Covid-19 pandemic. The season will commence on Sunday 5th July at Austria for R1 of the championship this weekend.

In some of the latest developments:

  1. Each F1 driver will be giving the same sets of tyres for each race weekend of the 2020 season due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Usually, drivers and teams will be able to choose their own sets of tyres but limit contact, all drivers will use the same sets of tyres for each race weekend of the season. The tyre selections for each race weekend of the 2020 season will consist of 8 red soft, 3 yellow medium and 2 white hard. These tyres will have to last a whole race weekend.
  2. Williams have updated their livery for the 2020 season. The FW43 now features a brand new livery with accents of navy and baby blue on the bodywork and the cars interim title sponsers, Sofina and Acroniss will have a greater presence on the car. The driver’s overalls will feature Lavazza as the main sponsor.
  3. The 2020 FIA F1 World Championship kicks off at the Red Bull Ring between 3-5th July 2020 in Austria. This will be one of two races will be taking place at the iconic 2.6 mile circuit. The race was won last year by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen after the Dutchman recovered from a bad start to clinch the win with a couple of laps to go after a daring lunge on Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc at Remus. There will be three DRS Zones on the Red Bull Ring.
