F1 update – Abu Dhabi GP

Round 24 and the final round of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship was held at the Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, Dubai for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The race was the title decider which the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship was won by McLaren’s Lando Norris who finished the race in third place which was all he needed to do to become world champion for the first time in his career and the eleventh British driver to claim a Formula 1 world title. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen did what he had to do by claiming his eighth win of the year heading home McLaren’s Oscar Piastri who finished second.

Abu Dhabi GP – top 5:

  • 1st: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
  • 2nd: Oscar Piastri – McLaren
  • 3rd: Lando Norris – McLaren
  • 4th: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
  • 5th: George Russell – Mercedes

2025 Formula 1 Drivers Championship Standings – top 5:

  • 1st: Lando Norris – McLaren – 423 points
  • 2nd: Max Verstappen – Red Bull – 421 points
  • 3rd: Oscar Piastri – McLaren – 410 points
  • 4th: George Russell – Mercedes – 319 points
  • 5th: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari – 242 points

2025 Formula 1 Constructors Championships Standings – top 5:

  • 1st: McLaren – 833 points
  • 2nd: Mercedes – 469 points
  • 3rd: Red Bull – 451 points
  • 4th: Ferrari – 398 points
  • 5th: Williams – 137 points

Other highlights:

  • Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda was given a 5 second time penalty for forcing McLaren’s Lando Norris off the track whilst trying to defend third position at the time which he would serve during his only pitstop during the race.
  • Williams’s Alexander Albon was given a 5 second time penalty for speeding in the pitlane his final race position of sixteenth was unaffected.
  • Haas’s Oliver Bearman was given a 5 second time penalty for weaving more than once which dropped him from ninth to twelfth in the final race standings.
  • Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll was given a 5 second time penalty for weaving more than once which dropped him to tenth in the final race standings.
  • Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was given a 5 second time penalty for exceeding track limits his final race position of nineteenth was unaffected.
  • Ferrari’s Sir Lewis Hamilton finished the race in eighth after starting sixteenth on the grid.
  • Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson was given a 5 second time penalty for dangerous driving which he would serve during his first pitstop.

News:

  • Williams were given a $5,000 fine for an unsafe release for Alexander Albon in free practice 3 for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
  • Aston Martin were hit $25,000 fine ($15,000 were suspended) for missing a fan engagement activity.
  • Haas have announced a new title sponsor in motoring giants Toyota which Haas will known as TGR Haas from 2026.
  • New Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has announced he will race with the No: 1 on his car for 2026.
  • Red Bull driver advisor Helmut Marko is to leave Red Bull at the end of 2025.

The 2026 Formula 1 World Championship season will kick off on 6th to 8th March 2026 at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne, Australia for the Australian Grand Prix.
