F1 update – Brazilian GP

Round 21 of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship was held at the Autodromo Carlos Pace a.k.a Interlagos Circuit in Sao Paolo, Brazil for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

McLaren’s Lando Norris capped off a perfect weekend by claiming his seventh win of the year heading Mercedes driver Andrea ‘Kimi’ Antonelli who took his best result of his career thus far with a second place finish with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finishing third after starting from the pitlane.

Brazilian GP – top 5:

  • 1st: Lando Norris – McLaren
  • 2nd: Andrea ‘Kimi’ Antonelli – Mercedes
  • 3rd: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
  • 4th: George Russell – Mercedes
  • 5th: Oscar Piastri – McLaren

Other highlights:

  • Haas’s Oliver Bearman continued his good run of form by finishing sixth in the race.
  • Racing Bulls enjoyed a good race as both their drivers Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar finished seventh and eighth respectively, the former lasting fifty laps on a set of medium tyres.
  • McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was given a 10 second time penalty for colliding with Mercedes driver Andrea ‘ Kimi’ Antonelli and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc after the safety peeled off into the pits which saw the latter retire from the race on lap 5.
  • Ferrari’s Sir Lewis Hamilton had an awful race which saw him collide with Williams’s Carlos Sainz at the very first corner of the opening and then later on the opening lose his front after colliding with Alpine’s Franco Colapinto. Hamilton would later retire from the race on lap 38.
  • Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto would retire from his home race on the opening of the race after crashing out.
  • Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda was given a 10 second time penalty for colliding Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll on lap 5, but the Japanese driver was given a further 10 second time penalty for not serving the original penalty correctly.

News:

  • Alpine announced that Franco Colapinto will race for the team in 2026.
  • Former Brabham and Surtees F1 driver and commentator Andrea De Adamich who was involved in a huge pile up in the 1973 British Grand Prix that ended his career as an Formula 1 driver has passed away at the age of 84.
  • 2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button has officially retired from racing after appearing in the Bahrain 6 hours Sportscar race.
  • Ford have announced their launch date to be in mid-January 2026 with Red Bull and Racing Bulls to be held in Detroit, Michigan, USA.
  • McLaren have questioned the F.I.A over Red Bull’s engine change for Max Verstappen at the Brazilian Grand Prix if it counts towards Red Bull’s cost cap allowance.

The next round of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship will be at the Las Vegas Street Circuit in Las Vegas, Nevada for the Las Vegas Grand Prix on 21st to 23rd November (UK time) (20th to 22nd November (US time).
