F1 Update – British GP

Round 10 of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship took the drivers and teams to the Silverstone Circuit in Northampton for the British Grand Prix.

The race saw Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz not only take his maiden pole position but his maiden win heading home Red Bull’s Sergio Perez who finished second with Mercedes Sir Lewis Hamilton finishing third in front of this home fans.

British GP top 5:

  • 1st – Carlos Sainz – Ferrari
  • 2nd – Sergio Perez – Red Bull
  • 3rd – Sir Lewis Hamilton – Mercedes
  • 4th – Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
  • 5th – Fernandon Alonso – Alpine

Other highlights:

  • Alfa Romeo’s Guanyu Zhou suffered a massive accident on the opening lap and at the very first corner of the race after colliding with Mercedes George Russell, Williams driver Alexander Albon crashed out in a seperate accident those accidents caused the red flag. Both Zhou and Albon escaped without injury. All three drivers would take the restart.
  • Haas’s Mick Schumacher scored his first ever points in Formula 1 after finishing eighth.
  • Reigning world champion Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had a nightmare race, first called in for a suspected puncture and then dropped back to finish seventh after suffering from car damage.
  • Other retirements in the race were Alfa Romeo’s Valterri Bottas (gearbox on lap 21), Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly (car damage on lap 27) and Alpine’s Esteban Ocon (fuel pressure on lap 38).

The next round of the championship will take the drivers and teams to the Styrian hills of Austria and to the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg for round 11 of the championship which will take place on 8th – 10th July.
