F1 update – Canadian GP

Round 9 of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship took the drivers and teams to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada for the Canadian Grand Prix.

The race itself saw Red Bull’s Max Verstappen hold of the challenge of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz to claim his sixth win of 2022, Sainz finished second with Mercedes driver Sir Lewis Hamilton completing the podium in third. The drive of the race came from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who started ninteenth and then finsihed the race in fifth.

Canadian GP top 5:

  • 1st: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
  • 2nd: Carlos Sainz – Ferrari
  • 3rd: Sir Lewis Hamilton – Mercedes
  • 4th: George Russell – Mercedes
  • 5th: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari

Other hightlights:

  • Alpine’s Fernando Alonso started second on the grid, but would finish the race in ninth after being handed a 5 second time penalty for weaving whilst battling Alfa Romeo’s Valterri Bottas for seventh, whislt Alonso’s teammate Esteban Ocon would finish the race in sixth.
  • Red Bull’s Sergio Perez would retire on lap 8 of the race with gearbox failure, Haas’s Mick Schumacher who was running strongly in the top 10 would retire on lap 19 with an engine failure whislt Alpha Tauri’s Yuki Tsunoda would crash out on lap 48 after his second final pit stop, the latter’s retirement would bring out the safety car.
  • Alfa Romeo’s Guanyu Zhou would put in a brilliant weekend for himself by starting tenth and finishing eighth.
  • Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll would score the final point by finishing the race in tenth place in front of his home fans.

The next round of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship is the British Grand Prix to be held at the Silverstone Circuit in Northampton, England.
