F1 update – Canadian GP
Round 10 of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship was held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada for the Canadian Grand Prix.
George Russell in his Mercedes took his and the teams first victory of the year by heading home Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who finished second with Russell’s Mercedes team mate Andrea ‘Kimi’ Antonelli completing the podium in third.
Canadian GP – top 5:
- 1st: George Russell – Mercedes
- 2nd: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
- 3rd: Andrea ‘Kimi’ Antonelli – Mercedes
- 4th: Oscar Piastri – McLaren
- 5th: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
Other highlights:
- Williams’s Alexander Albon would retire on lap 47 with an engine failure.
- Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson would retire on lap 54 with overheating issues with the car.
- McLaren’s Lando Norris collided with his team mate Oscar Piastri on lap 67 which caused Norris to retire, however he was given a 5 second time penalty for the collision, but since he was classified for completing 90% of the race distance he was able to serve the penalty rather than incur a grid penalty. The incident bought out the safety car.
News:
- The Canadian Grand Prix will continue to host a Formula 1 race until at least 2035 after the organisers signed a new contract.
- Thailand has moved a step closer to host an Formula 1 race from 2028.
- Alpine CEO Luca de Meo has announced he is to step down from his role with the team.
- Formula 1’s governing body the FIA have announed former World Rally Championship driver and team owner Malcolm Wilson as their new deputy president.
- Formula 1 have announced a 24 race schedule for it’s 2026 season with a new street track in Madrid hosting the Spanish Grand Prix, whilst the Emilia Romanga Grand Prix drops out.
The next round of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship will be held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria for the Austrian Grand Prix on 27th to 29th June.
