F1 Update – Chinese GP

Round 5 of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship was held at the Shanghai International Circuit in China for Chinese Grand Prix. This was the first time since 2019 a race was held there and it was also Sauber’s Guanyu Zhou’s home race.

For the forth time this year Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took victory finishing ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris with Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez finishing third.

Chinese GP – top 5:

• 1st: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
• 2nd: Lando Norris – McLaren
• 3rd: Sergio Perez – Red Bull
• 4th: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
• 5th: Carlos Sainz – Ferrari

Other highlights:

• Mercedes driver Sir Lewis Hamilton finished ninth after starting eighteenth on the grid.
• Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas would retire on lap 20 with engine failure which bought out the safety car.
• Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll on lap 26 before the restart would collide with RB driver Daniel Ricciardo which saw the former given a 10 second time penalty for their involvement and the latter would retire on lap 34 with damage to their car.
• Haas’s Kevin Magnussen collided with RB’s Yuki Tsunoda on lap 27 which saw the Japanese driver retire from the race and the Dane was given a 10 second time penalty for their involvment in the collision.
• Williams driver Logan Sargeant was given a 10 second time penalty for overtaking Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg under safety car conditions.

News:

• RB driver Daniel Ricciardo has been given a 3 place grid for the next race for overtaking Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg under safety car conditions.
• Ferrari will be racing in a special livery for the next race.
• Ferrari are set to announce a new sponsorship deal in the coming weeks.

The next round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship will be held at the Miami International Autodrome for the Miami Grand Prix on 3rd to 5th May.
