F1 update – Dutch GP
Formula 1 returned after the summer break in time for round 15 of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship which was held at the Zandvoort Circuit in the Netherlands for the Dutch Grand Prix.
McLaren’s Lando Norris took his second victory of the year heading home Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who had to settle for second in front of his home fans whilst Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the podium by finishing third.
Dutch GP – top 5:
- 1st: Lando Norris – McLaren
- 2nd: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
- 3rd: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
- 4th: Oscar Piastri – McLaren
- 5th: Carlos Sainz – Ferrari
Other Highlights:
- Williams’s Alexander Albon was disqualified from qualifying due to part of the floor of the car being too wide.
- Mercedes driver Sir Lewis Hamilton was demoted 3 places on the grid for impeding Red Bull’s Sergio Perez in qualifying, he would go on to finish the race in eighth.
- Haas’s Kevin Magnussen would have an off track excursion at Tarzan Corner on lap 4 which he would continue the race.
- Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll was given a 5 second time penalty for speeding in the pitlane.
News:
- Alpine announced that Jack Doohan son of 5 time World Motorcylce champion Mick Doohan would race alongside Pierre Gasly from 2025.
- Williams announced that Logan Sargeant will not race with the team for the remainder of the year and his replacement for the rest of the year is their F2 academy driver Franco Colapinto who becomes the first Argentinian driver since Gaston Mazzacane in 2001 to race in Formula 1.
- Alpine academy driver Abbi Pulling took victory in race 1 at Zandvoort in the F1 Academy race finishing ahead of Spain’s Nerea Marti who finished second with Dutch Ferrari backed driver Maya Weug finishing third. Race 2 saw Mercedes backed driver Doriane Pin of France take victory finishing of Maya Weug and Abbi Pulling in second and third respectively.
The next round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship will be held at the Monza Circuit in Milan, Italy for the Italian Grand Prix.
